1. WHERE IS A “MAGGIE” FROM?
No one really knows. There are tons of rumors surrounding socialites, a hotel magnate, and even illegal distillers way back in the 40’s. What we do know, is that is ever so popular today.
2. WHY CALL IT A MARGARITA?
Mariano Martinez invented the frozen margarita machine in 1971. At that time, he was a nascent restaurant owner in Dallas. Due to the time it took to hand muddle some of the ingredients, he decided to give a shot at automizing it after a visit to 7-Eleven and taking a gander at their Slurpee Machine.

If you want to step off the traditional recipe of lime, Cointreau, a salted rim, and tequila, there are several other flavors that have been created along the way. Adding a nod to Mexico’s favorite fruits, you can order pineapple or mango at virtually any Mexican restaurant you come across. Other options include strawberry, peach, or passionfruit.
6. SOMEONE ALWAYS HAS TO TOP IT.
The drink, called the “Lucky Rita,” was to garner press for the opening of the Flamingo Hotel’s Margaritaville Casino in Las Vegas, in 2011.
To date, this famed cocktail holds the “largest margarita in the world” title, with 60 people adding the proper ingredients over 300 hours, which ended up being added to a 17-foot-tall tank that held 8500 gallons.
7. FOR THE WIN!
Each year, low and behold, the World Margarita Championship takes place in Tucson. Bartenders compete for the Best Margarita in Arizona title. Visitors also get to partake in helping vote for their favorite recipe.
